What is COSHH?

The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, is a set of regulations designed to protect the health and safety of workers when they come into contact with hazardous substances in the workplace.

The COSHH regulations require employers to identify and assess the risks associated with the use of these substances, implement control measures to minimize exposure, and provide relevant information, training, and protective equipment to employees. These substances include but are not limited to:

  • Chemicals and chemical products

  • Dusts from processes like woodworking or construction

  • Gases and fumes

  • Biological agents such as bacteria and viruses

  • Nanotechnology-related materials

  • Metals and metalworking fluids

  • Hazardous pharmaceutical products

  • Vapors and solvents

  • Cleaning agents and disinfectants

  • Allergens
